Social Media + Bu$ine$$ = Lies

I've found the online social media phenomena of dubious value due to its inevitable corruption as a communication & community building tool. I cannot deny the positive contribution to humanity made by the immense growth in interpersonal connections and communication enabled by Facebook, Twitter, and the like. The negatives of social media are not intrinsic to its nature, but are due to our capitalist paradigm's inevitable shaping of the medium and the diverse and pervasive role "fear" plays in society. Practically, that translates into social media's primary function evolving into that of a marketing tool and the inevitable unsanctioned use & consequences of creating such a massive personal descriptor database and personal activity record (@manipulation, homogenization, and control of humanity).
